The aggregated supervisory banking statistics (SUP) contain information on banks designated as significant institutions (SIs) directly supervised by the European Central Bank (ECB), as well as less significant institutions (LSIs) supervised by the national competent authorities (NCAs) under the oversight of the ECB. The statistics are based on information collected in accordance with the Implementing Technical Standards (ITS) on Supervisory Reporting laid down by European Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) No 2021/451 and the ECB Regulation on reporting of supervisory financial information (ECB/2015/13).

The sample of supervised institutions considered for each reporting period comprises banks that are reporting COREP (capital adequacy information) and FINREP (financial information) at that point in time. For each bank in the sample, data are considered at the highest level of consolidation within the Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM). Changes in the sample can occur between reference periods as a result of mergers and acquisitions or reclassifications. The sample of banks considered for the statistics on the liquidity coverage ratio and its components is a subset of the sample used for the rest of the indicators, as the scope of reporting for liquidity differs from that for own funds, and specific waivers may apply.

The supervisory banking dataset is updated on a quarterly basis. With each update of the database figures for the previous four quarters can also be revised, as banks may resubmit data.

Aggregated supervisory banking statistics contain information on the following aspects of banks designated as SIs and LSIs:

  • balance sheet composition and profitability
  • capital adequacy
  • leverage
  • asset quality
  • funding
  • liquidity

All data (for outstanding amounts) are reported in euro.
