Methodology

Unemployment rates refer to persons of working age who are currently without work and are actively seeking work, expressed as a share of the labour force, using harmonised criteria and definitions. Employment covers employees and the self-employed working in resident producer units. Labour productivity reflects the output that can be achieved with a given input of labour. It can be calculated in several ways, but it is commonly measured as GDP divided by either total employment (number of people in employment, i.e. including both employees and the self-employed) or total hours worked.
